What exactly is EVANGELIZATION?
It’s anything we do in word, deed or prayer to lead people into a deeper relationship with Jesus our Saviour.
It is sharing the "Good News" which is JESUS. He died for us, He is Risen and He WILL come again!
For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
It’s loving people enough that you want them to know the love, the peace, the joy that comes from a relationship with Jesus.
“The love of Christ impels us” to proclaim Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:14
What's the "NEW" part?
The “ New” refers to the new passion, new methods and new expressions. The message has not changed but the culture we live in has. We need this newness to share the “Good News” effectively with those who have forgotten the message or have never heard it or understood it.
Whose idea was this anyway?
Actually … it was Jesus Himself who gave this command to his Apostles. They began evangelizing on the first Pentecost.
“Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature”.
Paul VI affirmed this in his letter On Evangelization in the Modern World:
We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all
people constitutes the essential mission of the Church” (14).
Pope John Paul II spoke often about the New Evangelization. Pope Benedict and now Pope Francis have made it a top priority for the Church.
Why me? I’m not a speaker or a priest.
We all have a role to play. It’s easy. There are lots of simple suggestions on this page and links to other resources. Pray first and ask God to strengthen you, and to show you where to start and with whom. He will do that.
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”But how
can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they
believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without
someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent?
