My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am pleased to invite you to a day of healing grace during the season of Lent 2015. Meeting Christ in the Sacrament of Reconciliation can be a powerful encounter for the renewal of our spiritual lives. This year, the priests of the diocese have agreed to work together in making themselves available on Wednesday March 25 to hear your confessions.
Pope Francis has shared this truth with us: “God never, ever tires of forgiving us!” We, however, sometimes imagine that we have used up God’s forgiveness and we tire of asking. We must remember always to ask for God’s mercy—as we are all in need of God’s forgiveness. God is constantly waiting with his love for us to repent and return to the Gospel.
Therefore, I hope you will take this opportunity to place yourself trustingly and humbly before God’s loving mercy. It doesn’t matter how holy or how bad we are, we simply need to come before God with a repenting heart and call upon him for his saving grace. Don’t worry if you’re not sure about what to say or do. The priest will be happy to guide you along. To help you prepare, we have included a short guide to the sacrament on our diocesan website. If you are still not sure, why not stop by anyways and spend time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Speak your heart out to the Lord and listen to his word for you.
We look forward to celebrating God’s love and mercy with you on March 25.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Bishop of Alexandria-Cornwall
