In yesterday’s Gospel Jesus tells the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man ate very well every day and wore fine clothes. Lazarus lay at his gate covered in sores and starving. Many of Jesus’ parables seem so simple and the lesson so obvious – but do we really get them?! Over the next several weeks we will be asked to give money to help some cause or another. Are we often asked for money – yup! Our few dollars do help make a difference. As part of your Lenten alms giving please consider one or more of these important causes.
The Church gives us the season of Lent to prepare for the great Paschal Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil). By tradition, the forty days of Lent are a period of intense preparation for those seeking baptism and entry into the Catholic Church at Easter and for us who accompany them.
